Acroma - Unum EP Review/Stream
About The Band
Some may know them under their original name ‘Unfear’, while others may know them by their current identity ‘Acroma’. One thing that hasn't changed about this kickass female fronted Argentinian band however, is their unwavering ability to make skull crushing riffs and finger shredding solos sound beautiful and melodically appealing to even the most inexperienced metalheads. With an impressive catalogue already behind them in their only four year young career, they return with a brand new EP, ‘Unum”.
Forget about a slow build up in the opener, as the first track ‘Unsound Cultum’ drops you off right in the midst of it, as if you happened to find yourself halfway through a set list. That’s not a bad thing at all, as it gives the impression that the musicians are already warmed up and in their groove, and it certainly sounds like a band who knows what they’re doing, and how to do it. Julia Sergent’s voice is easily one of the most compelling in the modern South American heavy metal scene, with the seemingly effortless ability to quickly switch from brutal and guttural growls, to softly gorgeous harmonies in an instant. Another stand out element was the consistently impressive drum work from Nicole Trinchero, adding mountains of power and punch into every moment.
A solid EP through and through, ‘Unum’ manages to become exactly what it set out to be. A fun and thrilling short piece of heavy metal brutality, with some hints of beauty here and there for good measure. While not much else can be expected from this listen, it still undoubtedly stands as another great project from a more than great band. If you’re looking for some great musicianship, superb female vocals, and a hauntingly gorgeous atmosphere, this is sure to satisfy you for a while. Just don't expect anything groundbreaking or revolutionary.
Unum is part one of a three EP trilogy with part two coming very soon. Unum is available on most music streaming apps. You can purchase the album through the Acroma official bandcamp by tapping here!
