Candlemass - Astorolus [Featuring Toni Iommi] (Napalm Records)
Candlemass surprised us with the release of the much talked about track Astorolus, featuring Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath on their upcoming new album The Door To Doom. Iommi’s guitar solo shows why he is one of the icons of rock and metal. The track is killer as it is classic Candlemass Black Doom Metal style with original singer Johan Längquist belting his vocals with the utmost passion. With this and their other single “The Omega Circle” giving us a taste, The Door To Doom looks like it’s going to be one of Candlemass’s best works to date.
Soilwork - Verkligheten (Nuclear Blast)
Sweden’s own Soilwork released their 12th studio effort Verkligheten and it not only shows why they have been at the top of the Swedish metal scene, but also that they can evolve and keep up with the times in regards to the evolution of metal throughout their extended career. The production is phenomenal as the guitars are crisp and clear shredding fast and furiously along with the ridiculously intense drumming. The vocals are harmonized perfectly complimented by some great screams and growls. While I don’t normally like my vocals all over the place like this, much like Jinjer, the actual arrangement of the vocal work is actually spot on to where the different styles compliment each other and makes artists like these an exception to this rule. In my opinion, the new Soilwork is a must listen.
Born Of Osiris - The Simulation (Sumerian Records)
The Simulation is the 7th studio effort from Illinois Metalcore homeboys Born Of Osiris. The 8 track album is everything you could want in this modern style of metal music. It’s very busy with thunderous drumming driving the explosive guitarwork and synths/effects adding the unique sound that Born Of Osiris owns. The vocals are excellent with nice depth and passion in each scream and growl. Anyone that is any kind of Metalcore enthusiast will simply love this album.
